Guatemala, Antigua & Lake Atitlan
Creative Color Knitting Journey
Our Muse: Antigua Guatemala
Our journey begins in the enchanting Spanish Colonial City of Antigua. This fascinating city is a unique blend of old world flavor and cosmopolitan energy nestled among 3 dramatic volcanoes; Agua, Feugo & Acatenango. Cobblestone streets, delightfully colored homes, stunning colonial architecture, museums, galleries of art and warm and friendly people. Antigua is one of the most beautiful and well preserved cities of the entire Mayan region with colorful markets offering a variety of handmade products that honor the traditions of generations of artisans. From Antigua our journey takes us through the intoxicating beauty of the western highlands; this is the heartland of the Guatemalan Maya, a place of living traditions amid the most beautiful of landscapes. Our destination is Lago de Atitlan. Atitlan is 1,500 meters above sea-level and considered by many as one of the most beautiful and colorful lakes in the world. In Maya the word “atitlan” translates as “the place where the rainbow gets it colors” just might say it all! Surrounded by mountains and three towering volcanoes with a dozen or so villages dotting the shoreline, most of which are accessible only by footpath or boat. The ever-present Maya culture, costumes, religions and way of life will serve as our muse as we leisurely journey from village to village.
